All of us have seen the words “dual mic” or “quad mic” slapped on the description of an earbud.

But really what do they mean and what purpose do they serve?

Today we will unravel these mystery terms and explain what purpose they are here to serve.

So let’s dive in.

What does the mic do on earbuds?

The microphone present on the earbuds serves the purpose of capturing audio input, helping the user to communicate on calls easily.

Not only phone calls but sending voice mails and commanding voice assistants is possible through the microphone present on these devices.

There are two types of mics present on an earbud.

Quad mic and dual mic, which are explained down below.

What is a dual mic?

A dual mic is a set of two mics integrated into each earbud that serve the purpose of reducing surrounding noises.

Dual microphones are often utilized in earbuds with active noise-canceling (ANC) features.

One microphone captures the external ambient sounds, while the other microphone captures the sounds within your ear canal.

By analyzing these two sound sources, the earbuds can create an anti-noise signal that cancels out the external noise, providing a quieter listening experience.

What is a quad mic?

Quad mic is a set of four mics integrated into the set of earbuds and each of them serves the purpose of delivering enhanced audio quality to the user.

Quad mics are generally better at canceling noise because these mics reduce the surrounding wind noises as well and deliver clear audio.
